QTII will continue to expand as we accumulate funding, until our entire staffing plan is complete. For our staffing plan, please see the Structure page.

If you are interested in employment with QTII, then do three things:

1.  Read the following books:
Redesigning Higher Education by Lion F. Gardiner*
How To Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie
Teaching Tips by Wilbert J. McKeachie*

           * see the References page for full cites on these works

These books comprise some of the core source material
that form the foundation of the QTII philosophies. To
most effectively work at QTII, you will need to be
            grounded in this material.

2.  Read the items on this page and the Structure page
3.  Email us your resume or CV, with a cover letter outlining why you would like to work for QTII, how the three books above have affected you, and in what position you think you might like to serve.

GENERAL EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:

For all personnel employed by QTII, we are looking for the following attributes and qualifications:

  • Passion. All employees and Board members of QTII share a deep and unqualified passion for seeing that the quality of education in this country be improved. This is exemplified by having studied the profession of teaching on one's own time, and by being willing to put in extra time and effort as needed to see that the quality of their own teaching is of the highest possible caliber.
  • Dedication. Employees of QTII understand that their work with QTII is a means of improving education, and consequently all of society. They understand that as a non-profit organization, QTII operates on a budget, and time put in over and above paid hours is a donation "in kind" to further the mission of QTII. They are not clock-watchers, except to ensure they contribute at least the number of hours they are being paid for.
  • Personality. All employees of QTII have a positive mindset. As the old joke goes, there are people who make things happen, people who watch things happen, and people who wonder what happened. QTII is looking for people who make things happen, not the kind of people who always find reasons it "can't be done." Additionally, all employees of QTII make a special effort to maintain positive and productive interpersonal relationships with other employees and with people outside the company. Each employee is an ambassador of goodwill for and within the company.
  • Ability to Communicate. You can have the greatest mind in the world, but if you can't get your thoughts across to others, what use are they? This is what QTII is all about, for teachers. QTII employees are able to arrange their thoughts and communicate them efficiently to others.
  • Flexibility. Although each employee of QTII will have a designated job with its associated job description, each one is ready to do whatever is needed to get the job done, helping out in other functional areas whenever needed.
  • Priorities-Oriented. Employees of QTII prioritize. They determine which things are more important, and they learn to distinguish things that are truly important from those that are merely urgent.
  • Professionalism. All employees of QTII are expected to maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times. This is reflected in speech, dress, mannerisms, and actions. This includes professional ethics: it should be okay for anything and everything you do to be printed on the front page of the Clarion-Ledger or USA Today, and for your family to read about it.

SPECIFIC EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:

The first requirement for employing someone is that we must be able to pay them. Therefore, we cannot hire someone unless and until we have funding for the position. When we have funding for additional positions, we will post here and in several academic publications the available job, its position description, and any specific requirements for that position.

Beyond this, there may be specific required qualifications for certain positions in the company. For example, QTII will eventually have five executive-level directors. These are not entry-level positions. To be considered, applicants for these positions must have, in addition to specific subject matter expertise in the area for which they are applying, experience and ability in managing people and projects, and should be able to show an exceptional ability to separate the wheat from the chaff and to get things done.

Non-Requirements. While preference may be given to those applicants who are already fluent in teaching fundamentals (domains of learning, ISD, objectives, etc.), we will consider applicants with little or no knowledge in this area. Sometimes it's easier to start from scratch than it is to "un-learn" set methodologies and concepts. We expect all new employees of QTII to learn the QTII philosophies, then to contribute to the development and evolution of these philosophies based on their own personal knowledge and experience, and based on their reading and research. QTII is always looking for a better way to accomplish its mission. We will not change just because something is "different," but we will change if someone can show us how the change is better than our current way of business.

QTII is a non-smoking company and office.

Employment at QTII does not require a specific degree, credentials, or certification, except for certain positions. However, preference will be given to those applicants who have one or more degrees from an accredited institution. Advanced degrees merit additional consideration.
